SARATOK: Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his younger sister at a palm oil mill in Sessang, Kabong on Sunday (May 24).
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the suspect was detained later the same day at Taman Permainan Tanjung Kembang, Kabong by a team from the district Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“Initial investigations found the 25-year-old victim, who works as a clerk at the mill, was approached by her elder brother at her workplace, where he allegedly scolded her for not answering his phone calls.
“The argument later turned physical when the suspect allegedly slapped the victim, kicked her and pushed her against a wall inside the mill’s weighing and payment counter cabin,” he said in a statement.
The incident was witnessed by a co-worker and several customers who were at the premises at the time.
Mathew said the victim lodged a report as she feared for her safety and that of her family, claiming the suspect had often behaved aggressively and was believed to be under the influence of drugs.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly admitted to assaulting the victim.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act.
