KUCHING: Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei overcame a nervy opening to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Singapore Open 2026 after defeating South Korea’s Kim Jae Hyeon and Ha Jeong Jang in straight sets at the Singapore Indoor Stadium today.

The Malaysian mixed doubles pair secured a 22-20, 21-14 victory in a contest that began with intense exchanges and high-pressure rallies from both sides.

The opening set saw both pairs trading attacks aggressively, with unforced errors occasionally creeping into the fast-paced battle as neither side was willing to give ground easily.

Point after point, the intensity continued to rise before Tang Jie and Ee Wei eventually edged the set 22-20 through sharper execution in the closing moments.

The second set, however, saw the Malaysians take firmer control of the contest.

Cross-court exchanges, sharp serves and relentless returns allowed Tang Jie and Ee Wei to steadily dictate the rhythm while holding their ground against the Korean pair.

Having now fully warmed into competitive rhythm again after a lengthy absence from playing together, the Malaysians looked more composed and fluid as the match progressed.

Their growing chemistry eventually proved too much for the Koreans as Tang Jie and Ee Wei closed out the second set 21-14 to march into the last eight in Singapore.

World No.8 Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani also marched into the last eight after overcoming fellow Malaysians Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King 23-21, 16-21, 21-8 in a thrilling all-Malaysian clash.

However, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah bowed out after falling to Thailand’s Benyapa Aimsaard-Nuntakarn Aimsaard 21-16, 21-19 despite mounting a late fightback in the second game.
