KUCHING: National mixed doubles shuttler Toh Ee Wei has broken her silence following news of the knee injury that forced her withdrawal from the Indonesia Open 2026.
In a message shared on social media, Ee Wei thanked supporters for their messages and well wishes after the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed she had suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee.
“I’ve received and seen all your messages and support. Thank you so much, it truly means a lot to me,” she wrote.
The injury was sustained during Ee Wei and partner Chen Tang Jie’s quarter-final match against India’s Kapila–Tanisha Crasto at the Singapore Open last week.
Subsequent MRI scans revealed the partial ACL tear, prompting the pair’s withdrawal from this week’s Indonesia Open in Jakarta.
Despite the setback, Ee Wei said she remains focused on her recovery and is determined to return to competition.
“I’m able to walk slowly now, and the news is out that I have suffered an ACL injury. Please allow me some time to rest, focus on my recovery, and figure out the best pathway forward,” she said.
The world No. 4 mixed doubles player also expressed hope of making a successful return to the court.
“I’ll do everything I can to recover as soon as possible. If I’m given another chance to step back onto the court, I promise I’ll give it my all and do it once again,” she added.
Ee Wei also thanked fans for standing by her during what she described as a difficult period.
“Thank you for staying with me through this difficult time.”
BAM has confirmed that Ee Wei is scheduled to undergo a follow-up MRI assessment next Friday, after which the national body’s medical team will determine the next course of treatment and rehabilitation.
The injury comes as a significant blow to Malaysia’s mixed doubles department, with Ee Wei and Tang Jie among the country’s leading pairs on the HSBC BWF World Tour this season.
