KUCHING: The 12th Sarawak Career and Training (SCaT) Fair 2026 opened today (June 6) at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre, targeting 25,000 visitors and featuring more than 130 exhibitors.

Organised by Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), the fair serves as a one-stop centre for education, training and career opportunities.

Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who is also TEGAS chairman, said the event supports Sarawak’s efforts to develop future-ready talent and nurture more job creators, particularly in areas such as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), entrepreneurship and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“Through this ecosystem, our mission is to change the paradigm of our younger generation so that they become job creators and not only job seekers,” he said during the opening ceremony.

He added that the state’s human capital agenda is being strengthened under Sarawak Budget 2026 through Strategic Thrust Three, which focuses on producing highly skilled talent capable of competing globally.

Visitors can explore academic and TVET pathways, attend on-the-spot job interviews and obtain information on scholarships, financial assistance and career opportunities.

Len Talif said the fair also helps connect students with the wider talent development ecosystem, from schools and training institutions to industry and entrepreneurship networks.

“Students are able to see the bigger picture of how the technical skills they learn can be translated into high-impact career opportunities and value creation for society,” he said.

Among the key attractions are the Sarawak Rocketeer Can Satellite (CanSat) Challenge, Sarawak Minecraft Challenge, TVET Master Competition, STEM Playground, Planetarium Sultan Iskandar Dome experience and the Oil and Gas Zone by PETROS.

Looking beyond the fair, Len Talif said TEGAS will roll out the Project of Dreams Realized (PRoDR), which will visit 14 locations across Sarawak from Lawas to Lundu to bring education, training and career information directly to rural communities.

He added that TEGAS is expected to organise more than 100 talent development programmes this year, including the Borneo Makers Festival, SCALE Sarawak, Sarawak Shell LiveWire, DROBOTEX and the StartUp World Cup Bootcamp East Malaysia Chapter.
