MIRI: Two siblings escaped unharmed after a fire destroyed their two-storey home in Taman Permaisuri Indah here in the early hours of this morning.

The blaze, which broke out at Jalan Palma 4, Taman Permaisuri Indah, completely gutted the semi-permanent house before firefighters brought the situation under control.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 4am and dispatched a team from the Miri Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.

Firefighters arrived within 11 minutes and found the house already engulfed in flames.

Despite the severity of the fire, the two occupants, believed to be siblings, managed to escape safely and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters deployed hose lines connected to a nearby hydrant and successfully contained the blaze at 4.30am before extinguishing it completely. The operation ended at 5.53am.

A total of eight firefighters, assisted by police and Sarawak Energy personnel, were involved in the operation.

The cause of the fire and the amount of property damage have yet to be determined and remain under investigation.
