KUCHING: Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) continues its commitment to strengthening efforts to preserve and conserve documentary heritage by participating in the 30th Southeast Asia-Pacific Audiovisual Archive Association (SEAPAVAA) 2026 Conference.

Holding the theme ‘Redefining Audiovisual in Archives: Relevancy, Technology and Unity’, the conference which was held from June 6 to 11, 2026 in Ipoh, Perak, brings together audiovisual archive experts from various countries to share knowledge, experience and best practices in the management of audiovisual materials and archives.

The conference supports professional development and increases recognition of the role of audiovisual archivists, in addition to strengthening collaborative networks within the archive community globally.

It also aligns with the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign by showcasing the country’s cultural diversity, unity, traditions and local products, which contribute to economic development while promoting the concept of harmony in diversity through the sharing of audiovisual materials from local and international institutions.

In the conference, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak presented a paper titled ‘Preserving Heritage Microfilm: A Collaborative Approach to Recovery and Duplication’ by Dayangku Horiah Awang Gani and Mohamad Aizat Ajis from Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, in collaboration with Siti Romiza Romali and Alexius Andrew from the Sarawak Land and Survey Department.

As Pustaka’s papers are becoming a valuable source of current research references in the field, the conference also successfully strengthened strategic collaboration among institutions in the areas of archives, information management and the preservation of heritage assets at both the national and international levels.
