SIBU: The Sarawak Society for the Blind (SSB) Sibu Division Branch will be organising the 48th Open House cum Food Festival on October 11, 2026, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Organising committee chairperson, Datin Seri Judy Lau Kung Ee, said the event would be held at the Blind Centre, Jalan Bukit Lima, here for a charity cause.
“We hope that this event will receive a strong response and support from the public like previous years so that the proceeds from the sales will be used for running the centre and beneficial for registered members,” she said at the first meeting of the organising committee in preparation for the event on Thursday (June 11).
She also expressed her appreciation to all parties who had contributed and supported the charity effort.
Lau said the event would be officiated by the Sarawak Methodist Church Chinese Annual Conference’s (SCAC) President, Rev. Dr Lau Hui Ming, who will serve as the guest of honour, at 9:00 am.
SSB Sibu Division Branch’s Chairman, Clarence Ting Ing Horh, when chairing the meeting, said that the blind centre could not stand on its own without the help of the public that is why they have to hold an open house every year.
“We hope that this year the public we invited to participate in this event can help us raise funds,” he added.
“It is something that needs to be done to help the blind.”
According to him, there are no longer any visually handicapped residents at the centre as all of them have returned to their respective homes with their families.
He stressed that it is a good sign because the centre is not a home to accommodate them.
“We are here to help the blind to become independent,” he said.
“This is one of the purposes of this charity programme we are holding.”
He added that SSB Sibu Division serves the visually impaired community in this central region.
