KUCHING: A 25-year-old delivery driver was fined RM500, in default one month’s imprisonment, by the Magistrates’ Court here today after failing to account for a missing consignment belonging to a telecommunications company while carrying out his duties.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali imposed the fine on Mohamad Firdaus Romainor after he pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 37(1) of the Sarawak Minor Offences Ordinance 1958.
According to the charge, Mohamad Firdaus failed to properly deliver a consignment to a delivery company’s warehouse at the Demak Laut Industrial Estate on Dec 27, 2025.
He was also found to have failed to conduct the required re-scanning of all goods under his custody and could not provide an explanation regarding the whereabouts of the missing item, which was suspected to have been taken by him.
Facts of the case revealed that the delivery company had received four consignments sent from a warehouse in Shah Alam to the Kuching Airport Cargo Complex on the day of the incident.
After the consignments were scanned by a staff member at the cargo complex, they were transported to the company’s warehouse in Demak Laut by Mohamad Firdaus, who was on duty as the driver.
Upon arriving at the warehouse, the consignments were left inside an Isuzu lorry for sorting the following day.
However, during the delivery process on Dec 28, 2025, the company discovered that one box belonging to a client was missing.
The missing item has yet to be recovered and resulted in losses amounting to RM15,000 for the company.
Investigations found that Mohamad Firdaus, an employee of the delivery services, had failed to comply with the company’s standard operating procedure requiring all goods to be re-scanned upon arrival at the warehouse.
He was also unable to provide a reasonable explanation regarding the missing consignment, leading to the charge being brought against him.
The accused was unrepresented, while the prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Shahridan.
