KUCHING: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch is finalising preparations for its 67th SA’ATI Night Commemorative Dinner, scheduled for June 28.
The milestone event aims to foster solidarity, honour party history, and reinforce unity among members and the community.
Derived from the Bidayuh language, ‘SA’ATI’ translates to ‘Together as One’, reflecting SUPP’s 67-year dedication to defending Sarawak’s rights.
In line with preparations, Kuching Branch acting chairman, Jong Yean Pin, and organising committee chairman, Lucas Lim, recently led a delegation to extend formal invitations to key party and community leaders.
Among those visited were SUPP Secretary-General and Piasau assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, and SUPP Vice-Chairman and Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
During the briefings, Ting urged the branch to strengthen grassroots ties and nurture young leaders, while Tiang emphasised that teamwork and staying close to the grassroots remain vital to earning public trust.
The delegation also paid courtesy calls on Phillip Yong, representing the family of the late founding elder, Tan Sri Stephen Yong, and Federation of Sarawak Chinese Associations’ President, Datuk Seri Richard Wee.
Lim paid tribute to the late Tan Sri Stephen, noting that the pioneer leader fought tirelessly for all Sarawakians, laying a solid foundation for the party.
Meanwhile, the engagement with Wee saw an exchange of views on economic development and community issues.
Through these visits, the branch aims to inspire its youth and women’s wings to emulate the dedication of past pioneers in serving the public.
The grand celebration is expected to assemble past leaders, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition representatives, business leaders, and community figures.
The organising committee has called on party members and the public to support the event to commemorate nearly seven decades of walking hand-in-hand with Sarawakians.
