LUNDU: An elderly man’s body was recovered from the riverbank of Sungai Batang Kayan today after members of the public alerted authorities to the discovery.

The deceased was a man believed to be in his 70s.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the operations began after the police requested assistance in retrieving the body from the riverbank.

The Operations Control Centre (PKO) received a call from the police at 12:50 pm regarding the discovery.

Police had received information from members of the public about the presence of a body at the riverbank before requesting assistance from Bomba to carry out the recovery operation.

A team of three firefighters from the Lundu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Lundu) was deployed to the scene. An aluminium boat was also used during the operations.

Upon arrival at 12:53 pm, firefighters located the deceased and proceeded to place the body in a body bag before transporting it to land.

The body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action. The operations were brought under control at 2:00 pm and concluded at 2:30 pm.

Police are expected to conduct further investigations into the case.
