SIBU: Preparations for the 2026 Sarawak Day celebration have entered the final stretch, with a site inspection conducted at several key venues ahead of the three-day event scheduled from July 20 to 22.

The inspection was led by Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, who is also the minister responsible for the celebration, together with representatives from various agencies and departments involved in the event’s organisation.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, and Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.

Among the venues inspected were Dataran Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, Kingwood Hotel, Masjid An-Nur and Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, which are expected to play key roles during the celebration.

The visit was aimed at assessing the readiness of logistics, security arrangements, public facilities and event management to ensure the smooth running of the celebration.

It also provided an opportunity for participating agencies to coordinate operational requirements and follow-up actions ahead of the event.

Sibu will host the 2026 Sarawak Day celebration, with a series of programmes planned throughout the three-day event to commemorate the state’s history, achievements and unity.
