SIBU: Seven major events have been lined up for the 2026 Sarawak Day celebration, which is expected to draw thousands of people to Sibu from July 20 to 22.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, who is also the minister responsible for the celebration, said the event themed ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’ would bring together people from across the state to commemorate Sarawak’s attainment of self-government in 1963.
“I hope this celebration in Sibu will not only strengthen the spirit of togetherness, but also recognise the town’s important role as an economic growth cluster and strategic development centre for the central region.
“I call on the people to come in large numbers and join the celebration as a reflection of our gratitude and love for Sarawak,” he said at a press conference on the celebration at RH Hotel here today (June 19).
Lee said the programme lineup includes a sales carnival, interfaith thanksgiving ceremony, Zumba session, thanksgiving gathering at Masjid An-Nur, Unity Walk, townhall session, as well as the Sarawak Day Assembly and People’s Concert.
He said the concert would feature local artistes, Ricky Anderson, Kelly, Claudia, Priscilla Abby and Ericson, alongside popular singer, Mimi Fly.
Meanwhile, Lee said Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, are expected to attend as guests of honour, together with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He added that the Sarawak Day Assembly would be broadcast live on TVS and various online platforms.
Lee also encouraged government agencies, business premises, schools and households to fly the Sarawak flag in conjunction with the celebration.
