SERIAN: Nine students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tebakang have brought pride to Sarawak after winning one gold and two silver medals at two international innovation competitions held in Jakarta, Indonesia, earlier this month.

Serian Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, said the achievement demonstrated that students from rural schools are capable of competing and excelling on the international stage.

The students represented the school at the World Cup Innovation 2026 (IWC2026) and International Invention Innovation Competition 2026 (I3C2026), which were held at Jakarta State University from June 2 to 7.

Riot said the delegation was led by teacher Sutinah and assisted by Melinda and Nurfarhana.

“I would like to congratulate the principal, teachers and students of SMK Tebakang for bringing honour to the school, Serian, Sarawak and Malaysia through their outstanding achievement at the international level,” he said after receiving a courtesy call from the delegation at his service centre here today (June 19).

The delegation was led by SMK Tebakang Principal, Benjamin Spencer Latif.

Meanwhile, Riot also received a courtesy call from officers of the National Defence Strategic Programme (PSPN).

During the meeting, he was invited to attend the ‘Jiwa Murni’ Programme under PSPN as guest of honour.

The programme is scheduled to be held at Kampung Tebakang on June 27.
