BINTANGOR: The Public Works Department (JKR) continues to serve as the main implementing agency in realising various government development projects that bring direct benefits to the people in Sarawak.
Tanjong Manis Member of Parliament, Datuk Yusuf Abdul Wahab, said the successful implementation of development projects largely depends on the technical expertise, experience and commitment of JKR personnel.
He said various infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads, bridges, schools, clinics and public facilities, were carried out by JKR as an agency equipped with comprehensive engineering and technical expertise.
“When the government approves development projects such as roads, bridges or other public facilities, JKR plays an important role in ensuring that these projects are implemented effectively and according to plan.
“The same applies to school, clinic and other facility upgrading projects that require technical and engineering expertise,” he said when speaking at the ‘Pengerami Gawai’ programme held at SK Sungai Sian here recently.
Yusuf, who is also Chairman of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), said JKR not only implements development projects in urban areas but also goes into rural areas to identify the actual needs of the people.
He said this approach enables more projects that are genuinely needed by local residents to be identified and considered in the government’s development planning.
He added that Sarawak is currently undergoing a phase of rapid development, and as such, more skilled and professional talent will be needed to support the implementation of various strategic projects in the future.
