KUCHING: Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Sarawak showed a slight decline compared to yesterday, although three areas continued to record hazardous levels above 300.
Based on data from the Environmental Quality Management System (EQMS) of the Department of Environment (DOE), the highest reading this morning was recorded at IPD Serian at 320, followed by Kuching (318) and Samarahan (302).
Meanwhile, Sibu recorded an API reading of 292 and Sarikei (283), both categorised as very unhealthy, while Bintulu (226), Mukah (241) and Sri Aman (214) are also at the same level.
The reading in Samalaju stood at 196, while Kapit (187), ILP Miri (183), Miri (181) and Limbang (173) are categorised as unhealthy.
Overall, 44 stations recorded API readings in the moderate category, 16 unhealthy, five very unhealthy and three hazardous.
EQMS data showed that API calculations are based on the 24-hour moving average for the most dominant pollutant parameter, with most readings in the table marked with **, referring to fine particulate matter (PM2.5).
