MIRI: Police issued 15 summonses and took action against a number of illegally modified motorcycles during an overnight operation in the city centre.
The five-hour operation, which began at 11 pm last night (June 20), was conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri).
During the operation, officers inspected 20 motorcycles and 20 local individuals.
Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation was launched in response to reports from residents and road users who had complained about motorcycle activities that disrupted traffic flow and disturbed public peace.
Among the offences detected, he said, were the use of non-compliant registration plates, riding without a valid driving licence, motorcycles without registration numbers, noisy modified exhaust systems and structural alterations that breached vehicle regulations.
“A total of 15 motorcycles were issued summonses for various offences related to vehicle modifications and road traffic regulations,” he added.
Mohd Farhan warned that police would continue to intensify enforcement against illegal street activities and reckless riding, stressing that such behaviour endangered both riders and other road users.
“Police will not compromise with any individual involved in activities that threaten public safety and order,” he added.
