KUCHING: The Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Strategic Plan 2026–2030 emphasises language development, financial sustainability, governance reform and digital innovation to support national education goals.
National Laureate cum DBP Board of Governors chairman Datuk Dr Anwar Ridhwan said the plan marks a significant step forward as DBP enters the implementation phase of its new strategic direction in conjunction with its 70th anniversary.
He said the comprehensive plan carries the main objective of “Strengthening the Love for the Malay Language and Enhancing the Identity of the Malaysian Nation”.
“Under the framework of Malaysia MADANI and Education Reform, DBP will move forward through five key pillars strategically aligned with the nation’s macro policies,” he said.
He said this during the DBP 70th Anniversary Celebration, which was officiated by the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, here Monday (June 22).
Anwar said the first pillar focuses on strengthening the Malay language ecosystem by positioning the language as one with high economic value in the industrial sector and labour market.
“The second pillar aims to expand global networks by promoting the Malay language internationally through the International Malay Language Council (MABM), the Language Council of Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia (MABBIM), and the Southeast Asian Literary Council (MASTERA),” he said.
He added that the third pillar centres on strengthening financial sustainability through the implementation of a competitive DBP Business Plan.
The fourth pillar focuses on accelerating digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) transformation through language and literary big data.
“The initiative will support the development of a more advanced Malay language AI corpus,” he added.
Anwar added that the fifth pillar seeks to strengthen governance and human capital management based on Malaysia MADANI values.
Additionally, he said DBP continues to play an important role in supporting the Ministry of Education’s direction.
This includes the implementation of the Upholding the Malay Language and Strengthening the English Language (MBMMBI) agenda and advancing digital education.
He added that DBP also supports the goals outlined in the Malaysia Education Plan 2026–2035 and the 2027 School Curriculum.
Through its publications, including school textbooks under the Textbook Loan Scheme (SPBT), DBP continues to support learning nationwide.
He said programmes such as Books and Magazines in the Classroom (MDK) reflect DBP’s commitment to nurturing intellectual growth.
“These efforts are aimed at producing individuals who are knowledgeable, noble in character and highly empathetic,” he said.
