SERIAN: Rural residents facing water supply issues, particularly during the current dry spell, have been urged to channel their complaints through their respective Resident’s Office to enable assistance to be coordinated more effectively.

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) would provide assistance when required, especially in areas already covered by its water supply network.

He said JBALB personnel regularly visited areas under its service coverage to carry out their responsibilities and engage with local communities when necessary.

“JBALB is the implementing agency for rural water supply projects under the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication.

“When clarification is needed or when there are requests for information, JBALB officers will visit the affected areas, particularly those within its service coverage,” he said when visiting the Serian Regional Water Supply Project Phase II sites in Sabal and Melikin today (June 23).

Julaihi said complaints from areas not yet covered by JBALB’s water supply network should be channelled through the Resident’s Office so that appropriate assistance could be arranged.

He said in cases where water supply was urgently needed, JBALB could deploy its own water tankers to deliver water to affected communities.

Where necessary, he said the Resident’s Office could also coordinate with relevant agencies, including the Welfare Department, to provide bottled drinking water to residents.

“JBALB is prepared to assist even in areas that are not yet under its coverage when requested.

“However, our long-term goal remains to expand water supply coverage to more areas across the state,” he said.
