KUCHING: The Kuching Love Book Association will host its 20th blood donation campaign at Emart Batu Kawa this coming Sunday (June 28) from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Organised in response to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Blood Bank’s call to replenish its depleted blood stock, the ‘Blood Donation Campaign 20.0’ aims to rally public support to save lives.
Association founder and chairperson, May Loo Hun Ing, expressed deep gratitude to the support units – the SGH Blood Bank and the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Kuching Branch – as well as Emart Batu Kawa for providing the venue.
“We hope that people from all walks of life will actively attend and support this meaningful event to help patients in urgent need of blood,” Loo said, reminding the public that a single blood donation can save up to three lives.
According to the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Centre, a single pack of blood contains various components, including red and white blood cells, platelets, plasma and coagulation factors.
These are separated during processing and tested for viruses and bacteria before being used to treat different medical conditions, effectively benefiting three or more patients.
The campaign is open to anyone aged 18 and above who weighs at least 45 kilogrammes. In addition, 17-year-olds are also welcome to donate but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Prospective donors are advised to get at least five hours of sleep the night before, eat breakfast, and refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages for eight hours prior to donating.
The entire donation process typically takes between five and 30 minutes, depending on the individual’s constitution.
In conjunction with World Blood Donor Day 2026, the MRC Kuching Branch will present certificates of appreciation to successful donors.
Furthermore, the first 80 successful donors will receive a special gratitude goodies bag containing a recycle bag, T-shirt, tissue paper, vouchers, rice vermicelli, rice crackers, biscuits, jelly, milk candy, milk, milk tea, and juice.
The association will also provide buns, Milo and drinking water for participants.
Loo also extended her appreciation to the event’s sponsors, which include Laundry Lounge, Supreme Consolidated Resources Sdn Bhd, Old Street Enterprise, Masana Marketing Sdn Bhd, Eyesight Optic, Taiwan Siau Jou, San Swee Fatt, Harrisons Sarawak Sdn Bhd, Nutrigold, Sundrop, BSSK Logistics Sdn Bhd, Munchy’s, Lai Lee Beauty & Slimming Centre Sdn Bhd, Asprime Sdn Bhd, Assuccess Sdn Bhd, and Wecare Bakery.
As an added highlight to the event, members from Lai Lee Beauty & Slimming Centre Sdn Bhd will be on-site to provide complimentary eye care and consultations to the public.
