LUNDU: Efforts to strengthen education, particularly in rural areas, must remain a priority to ensure every child has access to quality learning opportunities and is equipped to meet the state’s future development needs.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said investing in education was essential to producing a knowledgeable, competitive generation with a strong sense of identity.
“The commitment of educators plays a vital role in shaping students’ character and academic excellence while ensuring children in rural areas continue to receive quality education,” he said at the Hari Raya and Gawai celebration at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Jangkar on Thursday (Jul 2).
Billy also encouraged students in his constituency to pursue studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to support Sarawak’s future workforce requirements and economic development.
He said he remained committed to supporting educational development in his constituency, including student welfare, assistance for those pursuing higher education and efforts to upgrade school infrastructure.
According to him, applications for development projects and facility improvements must go through the prescribed procedures, but implementation efforts would continue based on priorities, needs and available allocations.
Billy also stressed the importance of preserving unity among Sarawak’s diverse communities, saying diversity should be embraced as a strength that fosters closer ties between schools, parents, community leaders and local communities.
He expressed appreciation to the school administration, Parent Teacher Association (PIBG), teachers and the local community for their cooperation in organising the celebration.
