TEBEDU: The Sarawak government is accelerating efforts to repair flood-damaged infrastructure following the major floods in January, with the Kayan River Embankment Construction Project in Kampung Krusen Kranji now underway.
Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said the project was part of the state government’s immediate response to the floods, which severely disrupted the main road and access routes used by villagers.
“The construction of the Kayan River embankment in Kampung Krusen Kranji involves a cost of RM2.1 million, while RM900,000 has been allocated for the reconstruction of the suspension bridge in Kampung Krusen Siu,” he said
He said this at the Project Site handover ceremony in Kampung Krusen Kranji on Wednesday.
The allocations for the projects were channelled through the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), while the Serian Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) is the implementing and monitoring agency.
The Kayan River Embankment Construction Project has a 12-month implementation period, from Sept 2, 2026 to Sept 1, 2027.
Meanwhile, Sinang said the proposed reconstruction of the Kampung Krusen Siu Suspension Bridge is currently undergoing final assessment in terms of documentation.
He added that, apart from disaster recovery projects, several additional allocations had also been approved to improve basic amenities for residents in the area.
“These include RM150,000 for a solar project involving Kampung Krusen Kranji, Kampung Krusen Siu and Kampung Krusen Mawang; RM100,000 to upgrade the Kampung Krusen Mawang Community Hall; RM100,000 to upgrade the village road in Krusen Mawang; and RM280,000 to upgrade the Awah Gawai facility in Krusen Siu,” he said.
