LAWAS: Thirty farmers from Ba’Kelalan and Long Semadoh have received mini power tillers as part of the Sarawak Government’s efforts to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food production in rural areas.
Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong said the assistance, channelled through the Department of Agriculture (DOA) Sarawak, reflects the government’s continued commitment to empowering the agricultural sector while helping rural farmers increase their income.
“This assistance demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and enhancing farmers’ productivity, ultimately improving the livelihoods of rural communities,” he said this when officiating at the Agricultural Machinery Handover Programme at the Lawas Agriculture Office recently.
Organised by DOA Limbang Division, the programme involved a total allocation of RM69, 931.16 to provide mini power tillers to farmers in Ba’Kelalan and Long Semadoh.
Henry said that both areas are renowned for producing Adan rice, a premium variety that commands a higher market price than ordinary rice due to its superior quality and distinctive characteristics.
He expressed hope that farmers would continue to maintain the high production standards of Adan rice to ensure the product remains competitive and continues to earn consumers’ trust.
