SIBU: A collaborative community effort by four organisations to strengthen Sibu’s blood supply drew an encouraging response over the weekend, with 113 people stepping forward to donate blood at Wisma UCA here.
Of these, 61 donors successfully donated blood, making a meaningful contribution to the Sibu Blood Bank’s ongoing efforts to maintain adequate blood reserves.
The large-scale blood donation campaign was jointly organised by the Sibu Branch of the National Association of Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors (NAMLIFA), the Sibu Vegetable Planters Association, the Sibu Seduan Lions Club and Rejang Medical Centre in collaboration with the Sibu Blood Bank.
The event reflected the growing spirit of community service and social responsibility among local organisations, with volunteers and healthcare personnel working hand in hand to ensure the programme proceeded smoothly from registration to post-donation care.
To encourage greater public participation, the organisers prepared light refreshments for early donors. Those who successfully donated blood also received appreciation gifts, including a bag of rice, a tray of eggs, biscuits, instant noodles, fresh vegetables and rice noodles.
In addition, complimentary health services such as body composition analysis and blood glucose screening were provided.
Organisers expressed their gratitude to every participant, particularly the successful donors whose selfless act will help save lives and provide hope to patients requiring blood transfusions.
They also thanked the volunteers, medical personnel and supporting organisations whose commitment contributed to the success of the programme.
The organisers hoped the encouraging response will inspire more members of the public to become regular blood donors as a stable blood supply remains essential to meet the daily needs of hospitals and patients throughout the region.
