LUNDU: A total of 41 landowners received RM403,618.75 in compensation for land acquisition under the Lundu Access Road Upgrading Project.

The compensation, involving 46 cheques, was presented during a ceremony officiated by Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan at Dewan Mahligai Gading here on Monday (Jul 6).

Azizul said the road upgrading project formed part of a long-term development plan for Lundu, which was drawn up after he was entrusted with representing the constituency in 2021.

“The planning took into account the actual needs of the people, particularly to improve access into Lundu in line with population growth and surrounding development,” he said.

He also thanked the Sarawak government for its continued commitment to Lundu’s development, including major allocations for three main access roads into the district.

The project, approved by the State Planning Authority on May 20, 2025, involves the acquisition of 38 land lots covering a total area of 8,697.8 square metres.

The land acquisition comprises titled land, Native Customary Rights (NCR) land, Native Communal Land (NCL) and state Land.

Azizul said the upgrading works involved more than widening the existing road, as they also considered future requirements such as road reserves, traffic safety, traffic flow and utility infrastructure.

He said the land acquisition process was carried out in an orderly and transparent manner in accordance with the Sarawak Land Code while ensuring a win-win approach for all parties.

While acknowledging that development projects could bring temporary inconveniences, he urged residents to remain patient throughout the implementation period, including during utility relocation and road alignment works.

He said the completed project was expected to improve travel convenience while supporting economic growth, attracting new residents and contributing to Lundu’s overall development.
