KUCHING: Engkilili is undergoing a major infrastructure and economic transformation as several strategic state-funded development projects progress through active construction and post-contract phases.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) incumbent Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa said what happened in his Engkilili constituency now reflects the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to improving connectivity and driving rural development.

He said the constituency is benefiting from a steady pipeline of projects funded by both the state and federal governments, with investments aimed at strengthening transport networks, enhancing public facilities and stimulating long-term economic growth.

Among the largest state-funded projects is the proposed construction of the Sebeliau–Ng. Entalau Road in Sri Aman, funded by the Sri Aman Development Auhtority (SADA).

Valued at approximately RM51.1 million, the project commenced on Nov 14, 2024, and has reached 99.57 per cent completion despite experiencing critical delays.

Another significant undertaking is Phase 1 of the proposed Bukong Bypass Engkilili/Kampung Bulu–Lubok Antu Road, also funded by SADA.

The RM29.9 million project began on March 27 this year and has achieved 12.37 per cent physical progress, although it is currently behind schedule.

Construction is also underway on the proposed link roads connecting the RC Bridge over the Batang Ai River at Merebong to Engkilili town, Bukit Tunku and Klampo in Lubok Antu.

Funded by MIPD at a cost of RM34.6 million, the project commenced on Oct 21, 2025, and has recorded 7.7 per cent completion while remaining on schedule.

Meanwhile, the proposed construction of new state government quarters for Daerah Kecil Engkilili under Package 1 of a statewide programme officially commenced on April 6, 2026.

The MIPD-funded project carries a contract value of RM22.5 million and is expected to strengthen government service delivery while supporting future administrative needs in the district.

Dr Rayong expressed his appreciation to the Sarawak government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for its continued investment in Engkilili, describing infrastructure development as a key catalyst for sustainable economic progress.

He said improved roads, bridges and public facilities would create employment opportunities, stimulate business activities and increase productivity by enhancing logistics and connectivity throughout the constituency.

Beyond their economic impact, he said the projects would also improve the quality of life for residents by connecting communities and ensuring better access to essential services such as clean water, electricity and internet connectivity.

He added that these investments demonstrate the government’s long-term commitment to balanced regional development, ensuring that rural communities share in Sarawak’s continued growth and prosperity.

He said there are also state funded pre-contract projects and federal funded post and pre-contract projects in Engkilili aside from the above mentioned projects.
