KUCHING: An 82-year-old woman from Kampung Stampin, who recently suffered a stroke, has received assistance from Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap following concerns raised by the village’s community leader.

Yap visited the resident on Tuesday (July 7) after longhouse chief Kalina Janggui informed him of the patient’s condition and sought assistance to support her daily needs.

During the visit, Yap presented the woman with a wheelchair and a supply of adult diapers to help improve her mobility and ease the caregiving burden on her family.

“Our community is strongest when we look after one another. I appreciate Kalina Janggui for highlighting the needs of this elderly resident so that assistance could be provided without delay.

“We must continue to care for our senior citizens and those facing health challenges with compassion and empathy,” he said in a statement following the presentation of assistance to the recipient.

Yap said although the assistance may appear modest, a wheelchair could significantly improve the quality of life of a stroke patient by restoring a degree of mobility and independence, while the adult diapers would help reduce the family’s financial burden.

He also thanked Kalina for her concern and for promptly bringing the matter to his attention.

Yap reaffirmed his commitment to continue working closely with community leaders to ensure assistance reaches those who genuinely need it, regardless of race or religion.
