KUCHING: The water supply interruptions in Selidap, Sungai Sian, Tanjung Bundong and Bukit Papit in Bintangor were caused by a submarine pipeline leakage at Sungai Muara Payang on last March 16.

This was stated by the Ministry of Utilities through the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) in a media statement yesterday regarding the issue.

“The submarine pipe replacement works are expected to be completed in the near future to ensure water supply can be channeled as usual.

“In addition, the water disruption is also due to the newly constructed alternative pipe from Bukit Papit which is unable to meet the demand of all residents in the affected areas.

“It is worsening following the leakage of a 500mm ductile iron pipe as a result of the Pan Borneo Highway construction work which is affecting the water supply from Sarikei to Bintangor,” the statement said.

It added that the ductile iron pipe repair works have been completed but the water supply would return to normal in stages. In this regard, JBALB Sarikei is doing their best to deliver water supply to the affected areas to alleviate the difficulties faced by the residents.

The Ministry of Utilities and JBALB stressed that all planned projects would be monitored in detail so that the projects can be implemented perfectly according to the pre-determined period. For any water supply interruptions in Sarikei, contact JBALB office at 084-657990.
