PADAWAN: A senior citizen, who had been fighting for his life since a two-vehicle collision on Saturday (July 11), has succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday (July 14).
Padawan police chief Supt Barry William said the 75-year-old victim was pronounced dead at 12.53pm while receiving treatment at the Orthopaedic Ward of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred at around 5.20pm at the Jalan Kuap exit leading to Jalan Kuching-Serian, Mile 10.
“A Proton Saga driven by a 22-year-old man was exiting Jalan Kuap to join the main road when a Honda motorcycle ridden by the victim, who was travelling behind along the same exit lane, reportedly collided with the right side of the car.
“The impact caused the victim to lose control and fall onto the road, leaving him with severe head, left arm and left leg injuries.
“He was rushed to SGH for treatment but succumbed to his injuries three days later.”
Police have also recorded statements from the victim’s next of kin and the driver while efforts are underway to trace witnesses.
The case has been reclassified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
