KUCHING: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized more than RM160,000 worth of illegal electronic cigarettes and vape products during statewide enforcement operations.
Sarawak GOF Brigade Commander, SAC Lim Bak Phai, said 30 premises were inspected across Kuching, Padawan, Bau, Lundu, Betong, Mukah, Sibu, Miri and Limbang on Wednesday (July 15).
He said 14 of the 30 premises inspected were suspected of selling and distributing electronic cigarettes in breach of existing regulations.

“Various types of cigarettes believed to have been sold in violation of premises permit conditions were also found.
“Of the premises found to be involved, one was in Padawan, one in Lundu, five in Betong, three in Mukah, two in Sibu, and two in Miri. A total of 32 workers were also inspected during the operations.
“During the operations, 1,279 vape devices, 19.24 litres of vape liquid and various types of cigarettes were seized, with the total value of the seizure estimated at RM160,717.60,” he said in a statement.
Lim said the simultaneous operations across Sarawak involved 88 officers and personnel from the Sarawak GOF Brigade, 58 officers from the Health Ministry (MoH), and 15 officers from local authorities (PBT).
He said the operations were aimed at curbing the illegal sale and distribution of electronic cigarettes while ensuring compliance with existing laws and regulations.
“The Sarawak GOF Brigade, together with the MoH and local authorities, will continue to intensify integrated enforcement operations from time to time.

“Stern action will be taken against anyone involved in the illegal sale and distribution of electronic cigarettes,” he added.
