KUCHING: Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak has entered a new chapter with the appointment of Datuk Ismawi Ismuni as its new chairman, as the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic communication, governance and community development.

The appointment was announced during the AZAM Board of Directors Appreciation Hi-Tea held at Waterfront Hotel here today, which also recognised the contributions of outgoing board members.

In his inaugural address as chairman, Ismawi said his priority was to ensure AZAM remained relevant and sustainable while adapting to future challenges.

He said the organisation would undertake a strategic planning exercise involving both the board of directors and management to align its vision, mission and organisational priorities.

“When the board and management move in the same direction, decision-making becomes clearer, implementation becomes more organised and the organisation will be able to achieve its goals more effectively,” he said.

Ismawi also stressed the need to strengthen AZAM’s financial sustainability by reviewing the roles of its subsidiary companies, expanding strategic partnerships and ensuring the organisation remained resilient in the long term.

He added that strategic communication must continue to evolve beyond information dissemination.

“Communication today is about building confidence, shaping perceptions, educating society and becoming a bridge between the government, organisations and the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, AZAM’s Chief Executive Officer, Ali Suhaili, said the leadership transition reflected the organisation’s commitment to ensuring continuity while building on the foundations laid over the past four decades.

He expressed confidence that the new leadership would continue strengthening governance, expanding strategic collaborations and empowering communities across Sarawak through effective communication.

The ceremony also honoured former chairman, Datuk William Patrick Nyigor, and former board members for their service and contributions to the organisation, while symbolically welcoming the new leadership under the theme ‘Honouring a Legacy, Embracing a New Chapter’.
