DARO: The Sarawak Government’s commitment to ensuring balanced development for rural communities continues to be demonstrated through the implementation of various infrastructure projects, basic facilities, and socio-economic development initiatives that directly benefit the people.
Daro assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s concern for the needs of rural residents had brought significant changes to the development landscape of Daro over the past few years.
“In 2017, when the Premier visited Daro, he announced two important projects, namely the construction of the Batang Lassa Bridge and the Daro Mosque,” he added.
“Today, both projects have been completed and are being enjoyed by the people.”
Safiee said this in his speech during the Leaders’ Meet-the-People Programme for Daro State Constituency (N43), attended by Abang Johari, here on Friday (July 17).
Elaborating further, Safiee said the biggest achievement enjoyed by Daro residents was the availability of electricity supply, which now covers the entire constituency.
He explained that previously, only certain areas had access to electricity, while many longhouses still relied on generators.
“Due to the Premier’s concern, the state government allocated RM31.1 million to connect electricity supply to 28 longhouses and villages,” he said.
“On July 13, history was made when the entire DUN Daro successfully achieved full electricity coverage.”
He added that the provision of electricity supply had not only improved residents’ quality of life but also helped reduce their living costs.
“Previously, some families spent up to RM500 a month purchasing fuel to operate generators. Now, they only pay around RM50 a month for their electricity bills,” he said.
Meanwhile, Safiee said the rapid development taking place in Daro had also created more economic opportunities for local residents.
Among the initiatives being implemented are the Daro Waterfront project, a modern farmers’ market, and the ‘Anjung Usahawan’ project, which are aimed at further stimulating economic activities in the area.
He added that the Sarawak Government had also approved the construction of a digital and innovation centre, combining the functions of a modern library with digital technology facilities to nurture a digitally literate community.
At the same time, Safiee expressed his appreciation to the Premier for approving several new projects, including an additional RM4.7-million allocation to complete SK Penasu, which had previously faced construction issues.
He also appealed to the Sarawak Government to consider approving the construction of the remaining approximately four kilometres of road that would connect several longhouses and a new school, completing the road network in the area.
Safiee said housing development for the people continued to receive attention, with the state government approving the construction of 59 units of affordable homes worth RM23.5 million.
“All these developments prove that the state government is always listening to the people’s voices and striving to fulfil their needs,” he added.
“We are confident that under the Premier’s leadership, Daro will continue to grow as a modern and progressive rural area with a more dynamic economy.”
