ENGKILILI: A family of four escaped unharmed after their home was destroyed in a fire at Batang Ai Hydro, Jalan Lubok Antu yesterday (July 21).
No injuries or casualties were reported as the occupants, comprising a couple and their two children, managed to escape safely before the flames engulfed the house at around 12.30 pm.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Betong station were dispatched to the scene, about 72km away.
Also assisting in the operation were Lubok Antu auxiliary firefighters, the police and the Civil Defence Force (APM).
It was reported that the team faced a challenging journey to the scene, using a public boat to cross a river as the burning house was located on the opposite riverbank.
Upon arrival, they confirmed that the house was beyond saving and performed the extinguishing deed.
The fire was brought under control at 1.49 pm before conducting overhaul works to ensure no hidden embers or hotspots remained that could reignite the fire.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 4pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
