KUALA LUMPUR: Mandarin is increasingly gaining popularity among non-Chinese communities, reflecting a growing recognition of the language as a valuable skill for communication, career advancement and business opportunities.
Kuala Lumpur-based Kunkwan International Online Mandarin Training Centre has taught Mandarin to 532,257 non-Chinese adult learners in Asia since 2014 through its instructor-led online classes following the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) learning pathway.
The achievement has earned the training centre recognition from ASIA Records in the category of ‘Most Non-Chinese Adult Learners in Instructor-Led Online Mandarin Classes with HSK Pathway Since 2014’.
The ASIA Records certificate was presented to Kunkwan recently in conjunction with its Extraordinary Live 2026 programme held here recently.
Kunkwan founder Kent Ng Kun Wan said the growing interest in learning Mandarin among non-native speakers reflects the language’s increasing value as a skill that can open up new opportunities, including in their daily lives, careers and businesses.
He said the Extraordinary Live 2026 programme, themed ‘Your Mandarin Upgrade’, also served as a platform to promote lifelong learning while inspiring more people to take up Mandarin with confidence.
“We hope to encourage more non-Chinese individuals to learn Mandarin and use it as a skill that opens the door to greater opportunities in life.
“This ASIA Records recognition is not just an achievement for Kunkwan but is also dedicated to our learners who dared to challenge themselves, embraced continuous learning and strived for excellence,” he said in a statement today.
The two-day Extraordinary Live 2026 programme brought together about 300 participants from all over Malaysia as well as Indonesia, and featured 14 speakers from diverse backgrounds who shared their experiences on learning Mandarin.
Ng said Kunkwan would continue expanding access to Mandarin language education to help more non-native speakers master the language, foster cross-cultural communication and better equip individuals for future challenges.
