BAU: Cable thieves caused a power disruption in Kampung Apar, Singai after stealing electrical wiring from a substation, leaving behind an estimated RM5,000 in losses.
Bau district police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said police received a report on the incident on July 24 after SESCO was alerted to a power supply disruption at the substation.
He said an inspection found that the main electrical wiring had been cut and removed by unknown individuals.
“The stolen wiring is estimated to be worth RM5,000,” he said.
Mohd Haide said although the substation was fenced, it was not equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras or guarded by security personnel.
He added that the suspect was believed to have entered the substation through a damaged section of the fencing.
“Since the substation is located about five metres from the main road, it provided easy access for the suspect,” he said.
Mohd Haide said no arrests had been made and investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
He stressed that police viewed seriously any act of theft or vandalism involving public infrastructure, as it could disrupt essential services and affect the daily lives of the community.
He urged members of the public with information related to the incident to come forward and assist police in the investigation.
