SARIKEI: The continuous efforts of Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, in securing development allocations from the federal government have borne fruit with the completion of a new concrete bridge at Jalan Ann Hock, Sungai Sebanyak, which has now been opened for public use.
The 36-metre-long bridge, built at a cost of RM449,000, took approximately three months to complete, and provides local residents with a safer and more comfortable route.
“The previous wooden bridge had become dilapidated and was damaged due to age, posing a safety risk to road users,” said Huang, who is also Sarikei Member of Parliament and Repok assemblyman, in a press statement on Wednesday (July 29).
He said that upon receiving complaints from local residents, he immediately submitted an application to the government for the construction of a new bridge and successfully secured the necessary funding to carry out the project, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the community.
Earlier, accompanied by officers from the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA), he visited the site to inspect the newly completed concrete bridge and review the outcome of the project.
He stressed that roads and bridges are among the most essential infrastructure for improving connectivity in rural areas.
“Throughout nearly 11 years of being entrusted as the people’s representative, I have continuously worked to secure various development allocations from the government to improve basic infrastructure in rural areas. The goal is to enhance the well-being of the people and stimulate local development,” he said.
At the same time, he expressed his appreciation to voters for their continued support and trust in him during past general elections and Sarawak state elections.
“Sarikei is my hometown, and the people here are my extended family. We have gone through many challenges together and will continue working hand in hand to develop this area.
“With government allocations, we will continue implementing various development projects, including upgrading roads and bridges, strengthening school facilities, boosting economic development, and supporting the development of places of worship to improve the people’s quality of life,” he said.
He also conveyed his appreciation to Premier Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to prioritising the welfare of the people.
He said Sarawak’s ability to sustain its development momentum is the result of forward-looking leadership, guiding the state towards a more advanced, prosperous and progressive future.
