KUCHING: SMK Kubong, Limbang will represent Sarawak at the National MADANI Youth Forum Competition, scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur on August 10 and 11, 2026.
The school earned the honour after emerging champion in the 2026 MADANI Youth Forum Competition for the Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Challenge Trophy.
SMK Kubong won the title with its forum presentation entitled ‘Teknologi Metasemesta: Mampukah Memenuhi Aspirasi Pendidikan Digital?’ (Metaverse Technology: Can It Fulfil the Aspirations of Digital Education?).
The competition held at Balai Budaya, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) saw the winning team take home the challenge trophy, RM2,500 in cash, DBP publications, and certificates of recognition today (July 29).
The prizes were presented by the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, and DBP Director-General, Datuk Dr Hazami Jahari.
SMK Kubong also recorded a double victory by winning the Best Montage Award, while two of its members received special honours: Ryan Anthony was named Best Chairperson, and Chong Yii Fong won the Best Panellist Award.
Each special award carried RM300 in cash, DBP publications and a certificate of recognition.
Meanwhile, SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab (SMK SHOAW) finished as first runner-up with its forum entitled ‘Teknologi dan Budaya: Ancaman atau Peluang’ (Technology and Culture: Threat or Opportunity?).
The school received RM2,000 in cash, DBP publications and certificates of recognition.
SMK Kabong, Betong secured third place and received RM1,000 in cash, DBP publications and certificates.
Consolation prizes were awarded to SMK Methodist Sibu and SMK Bintulu, with each school receiving RM500, DBP publications and certificates of recognition.
In addition, every participating school was awarded RM5,000 from the Special Cross-Cultural Fund.
The competition attracted 50 entries, with only five schools qualifying for the state final.
