KUCHING: Construction of a new RM600,000 Surau Al-Mukhlis in Kampung Stutong Melayu here is set to begin following the handover of the project site today.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Sau Sin, said the project demonstrates the state government’s commitment to listening to the aspirations of the people and translating them into tangible development projects.
“This project began with a request from the residents of Kampung Stutong Melayu. After listening to their needs, I was pleased to allocate RM600,000 under my Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation to make this project a reality.
“Development is meaningful when it directly improves the quality of life of the people,” he said during the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and Site Handover Ceremony for the construction of the new Surau Al-Mukhlis, Kampung Stutong Melayu, together with officers from the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak today.
He added that the new surau will not only provide a more comfortable place of worship but will also serve as a centre for religious, educational and community activities, strengthening unity and social cohesion among residents.
Yap also said that the Sarawak Government remains committed to inclusive development by ensuring that all communities have access to quality public facilities, including places of worship, as part of its people-centric development agenda.
He also expressed his appreciation to PWD Sarawak as the implementing agency, the Surau Al-Mukhlis committee, community leaders, and residents for their close cooperation in making the project possible.
He called upon the appointed contractor to carry out the project according to the approved specifications, maintain high standards of workmanship, prioritise safety, and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe so that the community can enjoy the new facility as soon as possible.
Yap reaffirmed his commitment to continue working closely with the people of Kota Sentosa to identify and implement development projects that address the needs of the community and enhance their quality of life.
