SIBU: Two people died after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a ditch along Jalan Sungai Bidut here today.
The victims were identified as Leong Ann Kin, 46, and Lee Leh Choo, 33.
The Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said it received a distress call regarding the accident at 2:48 pm and arrived at the scene at 2:59 pm.
According to the department, both victims were still inside the vehicle, which had entered a ditch at the side of the road.
Firefighters from Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station used rescue equipment and a stretcher to remove the victims from the vehicle.
However, both were pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The vehicle was later pulled out of the ditch by an excavator near the accident site.
A total of eight firefighters from Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station were involved in the operations, using a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
