KUCHING: Having lost his elder brother in Sarawak’s communist insurgency, Ngemah assemblyman, Anyi Jana, urged Malaysians not to forget the sacrifices of the nation’s fallen heroes on Warriors’ Day today.
Anyi said the annual observance is a meaningful occasion to remember the courage, sacrifice and fighting spirit of those who defended the country’s sovereignty, security and independence.
His elder brother, Border Scout Luyoh Jaul, was among the 13 security personnel killed in the Pendam Bungkang ambush in Upper Sungai Ngemah on August 27, 1970, one of the deadliest attacks during Sarawak’s communist insurgency.
“We should extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to members of the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Royal Malaysia Police, and all security personnel who continue to serve with dedication, courage and sincerity to ensure our country remains peaceful, prosperous and secure,” he said in his Warriors’ Day message on his Facebook post.
Anyi said the sacrifices of the nation’s defenders should inspire Malaysians to strengthen unity, preserve harmony, and safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
“I hope the spirit of heroism will continue to flourish in the hearts of every Malaysian as an inspiration to strengthen our unity, preserve harmony, and defend the nation we love,” he said.
He also paid tribute to those who had laid down their lives in service to the country.
“To our heroes, our deepest gratitude and highest appreciation. Your services will always be remembered, and your sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he said.
