KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council’s (MPKS) newly upgraded RM1.9 million event site has officially begun serving as a venue for large-scale public events, making its debut with the launch of the Jom Heboh Segulai Sejalai Sarawak Kota Samarahan programme on Saturday.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the new venue strengthens public facilities here while providing a more suitable space for hosting major events in the future.
He said the site, which was previously an open field, had been upgraded by MPKS at a cost of RM1.9 million, with Jom Heboh Segulai Sejalai Sarawak becoming the first programme to utilise the facility.
“MPKS upgraded this area with an allocation of RM1.9 million. Jom Heboh Segulai Sejalai Sarawak is the first programme to make use of this new site,” he said when officiating at the event.
Abdul Karim said the upgraded venue has the potential to support more large-scale events, benefiting the local community while stimulating economic activity in the area.
He added that the encouraging public response to the programme demonstrates Kota Samarahan’s potential to continue being selected as a host venue for similar events in the future.

Abdul Karim, who is also Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development said organising major events not only provides family-friendly entertainment but also creates business opportunities for local entrepreneurs through sales and promotional activities.
He added that the programme also enables government agencies to engage directly with the public by showcasing their services, initiatives and products.
Meanwhile, nearly 10,000 visitors attended the Jom Heboh Segulai Sejalai Sarawak Kota Samarahan Concert.
Thousands of visitors from Kota Samarahan, Kuching, Serian and surrounding areas began gathering at the grounds beside MPKS from the afternoon to participate in various activities before the evening concert finale.

The stage came alive with energetic performances by local and national artistes, drawing an enthusiastic response from the large crowd.
Besides offering family-oriented entertainment, the event also generated economic spillover for the local community by providing business opportunities for entrepreneurs to boost sales.
Government agencies also took part by introducing their services, initiatives and products to the public.
