LAWAS: Women in Sarawak are encouraged to embrace digital technology to enhance their socio-economic standing, expand entrepreneurial opportunities and play a greater role in the state’s development.

The message was highlighted during the Lawas district-level Sarawak Women’s Day 2026 celebration, themed ‘Sarawak Women in Digital Economy’, held at the Lawas District Office yesterday (Aug 2).

According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the programme, organised by the Lawas District Office in collaboration with CENTEXS Lawas, brought together 45 participants comprising government employees and representatives from women’s non-governmental organisations.

Participants attended a talk titled ‘Empowering Women with AI and the Digital Economy’ delivered by CENTEXS Lawas officer-in-charge Cathrine Guma, which covered the use of artificial intelligence (AI), digital marketing and business innovation.

The programme also aimed to raise awareness of the opportunities offered by the digital economy while encouraging women to strengthen their digital skills and make productive use of technology in business.

Participants also joined a live broadcast of the Sarawak Women’s Day 2026 celebration officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wore green attire as a symbolic gesture of support for the celebration.
