KUCHING: Motorists are advised to expect temporary road closures and traffic diversions across the city tomorrow (Thursday, Aug 6) as a large-scale religious procession celebrating the birthday of deity Guan Ti Kung makes its way through the city centre.
Kuching Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the procession, scheduled from 6 pm until midnight, is expected to attract 120 participating contingents.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users, Kuching Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division will be implementing phased road closures and diversions based on prevailing traffic conditions.
The procession will begin at Lorong Ang Cheng Ho No. 7 before passing through Jalan Petanak, Bulatan Sri Aman, Jalan Central Timur, Jalan Ban Hock, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Bukit Mata, Jalan Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Wawasan, Lorong Carpenter, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Abell, Jalan Rumbia, Bulatan Petanak and Lorong Blacksmith before returning to Lorong Ang Cheng Ho.
To ease congestion, police have advised motorists travelling from Jalan Tabuan via Simpang Tiga to use Jalan McDougall to avoid closures along Jalan Lebuh Wayang and Jalan Wawasan.
Those coming from Jalan Haji Taha are encouraged to turn into Jalan Power to bypass congestion near Jalan Gambir and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.
Meanwhile, motorists travelling from Pending or Padungan should use Jalan Sekama and Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim as alternative routes.
He also reminded the public not to park along road shoulders on affected routes and urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance to minimise delays.
