KUCHING: A 31-year-old driver was arrested for allegedly driving with alcohol levels above the legal limit late Wednesday night (Aug. 5).
The district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division conducted traffic operations codenamed ‘Ops Mabuk’ along Jalan Stutong here.
Kuching Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the local man was stopped at around 11:55 pm while driving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
“A breathalyser test found the driver’s blood alcohol content exceeded the limit allowed under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He was then arrested to facilitate investigation and further action,” he said.
In addition, officers also issued 20 summonses for various traffic offences detected throughout the operation.
Alexson stated that traffic police would continue stepping up enforcement operations to improve road safety and curb drink-driving offences.
Following this, all motorists have been urged to obey traffic laws and never drive after consuming alcohol.
“Such irresponsible behaviour not only endangers them, but also puts the lives of other road users at risk,” he said.
