LUNDU: Twenty-six community groups and village committees in Opar received RM121,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to support local development and community activities.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the grants were part of the Sarawak Government’s continued efforts to strengthen grassroots development by providing financial support for programmes benefiting local communities.

He said recipients must use the allocations prudently and strictly for their approved purposes to ensure the programmes delivered meaningful benefits.

“Each recipient must ensure the funds received are properly managed and submit expenditure reports according to the stipulated procedures,” he said during the grant presentation ceremony here on Friday (Aug 7).

Billy said assistance to communities would continue to be channelled in stages, subject to approval and fund availability.

He said the approach would allow more organisations and communities in the Opar constituency to benefit from government assistance.

The RM121,000 allocation was distributed among 26 bureaus, organisations and village development and security committees (JKKKs) in the constituency.

Also present was Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Niponi Undek.
