KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has asked the Election Commission (EC) to provide an updated report on the proposed redelineation to increase the number of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly seats.
MADANI Government spokesman, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, said the matter was raised in a recent Cabinet meeting, and the Prime Minister also expressed his commitment to implement it.
“The commitment made by the Prime Minister is to implement, and there is a little process that he informed the Cabinet involving the EC, and it will be implemented.
“(The implementation period) has not been informed to the Cabinet because there are several things that we are waiting for from the EC,” he told reporters after the JAPEN@PETRONAS Jalur Gemilang Expression Programme here today.
Media reported that Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said that she and Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, had raised the issue of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly delineation in the Cabinet meeting.
In July last year, the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (Composition of Membership) Bill 2025 to add 17 new seats, bringing the total to 99 seats, was tabled and approved by the DUN. – BERNAMA
