MIRI: Miri police have stepped up crime prevention efforts across the district through an integrated operation involving 26 officers and personnel, aimed at strengthening police visibility and deterring criminal activity.
The operation, conducted by the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri), involved six senior officers and 20 personnel deployed in roadblocks, snap checks, mobile patrols and inspections of entertainment outlets.
The operation was preceded by a briefing at the Kenyalang Hall of IPD Miri, led by Miri District Crime Prevention and Community Safety Chief ASP Lee Yen Fang.
The integrated operation began at 11 pm, with roadblocks set up at strategic locations within the Miri police district.
Police conducted checks on road users and identified various traffic offences, including driving without a valid licence, vehicle structural modifications, missing side mirrors, modified exhaust systems, fancy number plates and expired road tax.
Three summonses were issued during the operation.
Meanwhile, mobile patrol and snap-check teams conducted checks and maintained a visible presence around residential areas, villages and major roads as part of the police’s omnipresence strategy.
The initiative is intended not only to deter crime but also to reassure residents that police are maintaining a strong presence in areas where members of the public live, work and travel.
Police also inspected entertainment outlets during the operation, resulting in the arrest of a man suspected of involvement in drug abuse.
IPD Miri said similar integrated operations would continue from time to time to curb crime, strengthen enforcement and increase police visibility at public hotspots across the district.
