SIMANGGANG: Two new tourism landmarks will soon take shape here with the construction of the RM1.5-million Benak Viewing Tower and RM4.5-million Ikan Bulu Landing.
Sri Aman Resident, Mahra Salleh, said the Benak Viewing Tower project at Taman Tebingan Sungai Batang Lupar would comprise two 10-metre-high towers, each covering an area of five square metres.
He said the first tower would be located near the iconic sculpture of the legendary crocodile Bujang Senang while the second would be built near the Ikan Bulu replica.
“When the project is completed, it will become a focal point for visitors wishing to witness the tidal bore phenomenon on the Batang Lupar River from the towers,” he added.
Mahra said this when met by the media at the site handover ceremony for the Benak Viewing Tower project here on Friday (Aug. 14).
Mahra added that the Sarawak Government would also implement the construction of the Ikan Bulu Landing in the riverside area of Kampung Tengah, Sri Aman, at a cost of RM4.5 million.
He said the project was being implemented as Sri Aman was known not only for its tidal bore phenomenon and crocodiles but also for the Ikan Bulu.
He added that construction of the Ikan Bulu Landing would begin in the fourth quarter of this year, between October and December, following the commencement of the Benak Viewing Tower project.
“Upon completion, the Ikan Bulu Landing will feature facilities such as a café, stalls and a market where the public can purchase Ikan Bulu and enjoy meals at the landing,” he concluded.
