TATAU: Non-Muslim houses of worship in Tatau and Kakus have been urged to tap Sarawak Government’s funding under the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) to upgrade facilities and support development.
Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, said applications from churches, temples and other houses of worship in the two areas remained low.
“There are still only a few applications from houses of worship, particularly in Tatau District and the Kakus constituency. I urge the management committees of churches, temples and other houses of worship to come forward and submit their applications,” he added.
Sikie said this when speaking at the Minor Rural Project (MRP) Fund handover ceremony at the Tatau District Office Meeting Room recently.
He said the funding was part of the state government’s efforts to improve facilities, support development, and strengthen activities at non-Muslim houses of worship.
At the ceremony, he also handed over RM790,500 in MRP allocations to 39 Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs), Women’s Bureaus and various associations for grassroots development and activities.
He reminded recipients to use the allocations strictly for their approved purposes and ensure the benefits reached the community.
“MRP allocations should not be distributed in the form of cash but instead be used to implement approved projects and activities,” he said.
