PADAWAN: A labourer was killed after his motorcycle veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with another motorcycle along Jalan Matang last night (Aug 15).

The victim has been identified as Muhammad Shallihin Saifulyazan, 35.

The accident happened at around 10.30 pm at Mile 9½, Jalan Matang, involving a Kawasaki BR250 ridden by the victim and a Yamaha NVX ridden by a 23-year-old man.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was travelling towards Mile 10, Jalan Matang, when he entered the opposite lane while negotiating a slightly curved section of the road.

Padawan police chief Supt Barry William said he then collided with the Yamaha NVX, which was travelling in the opposite direction towards Mile 8.

“The impact left the victim with severe injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“His remains were taken to the hospital for further action.

“Meanwhile, the other rider suffered abdominal injuries and was taken to the hospital’s Yellow Zone for further treatment,” he said.

Barry stated that both the deceased and the injured rider had no driving licence record.

Investigations found that the crash was caused by the deceased’s failure to properly control his motorcycle, resulting in it entering the opposite lane.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
