KUCHING: Sarawak will continue fighting for its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) regardless of who forms the federal government after the 16th General Election (GE16).
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, said the commitment would remain a key agenda of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government as it seeks to protect the rights of Sarawakians.
She said the state government would continue pursuing the MA63 agenda regardless of the federal government’s composition or structure.
“What matters is that we will continue to fight for our rights under MA63 because this is our responsibility as a government to ensure that the rights of Sarawakians are protected and that Sarawak is always prioritised,” she said.
She said this when met by reporters after officiating the ‘Seminar Wanita ‘Keluarga Idaman Wanita: Bahagia Hingga ke Syurga’ event at Auditorium Wisma SABATI here today.
The seminar, jointly organised by the N7 Samariang Women’s Movement and HIKMAH Women’s Committee, focused on strengthening women’s roles within the family institution while equipping them with knowledge and motivation to face the challenges of modern life.
Sharifah Hasidah said the programme drew more than 300 participants from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm, describing the response as encouraging.
She added that the programme was a good example of collaboration and expressed hope that more such initiatives could be organised with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Sarawak to empower women and strengthen families.
“Empowerment should not only be from the perspective of business and community but also within the family. Families also need to be empowered. Alhamdulillah, today’s talks from the morning until noon were really excellent,” she added.
